Froggie Goes A-Courtin'

“Frog Quixote”
Froggie has a perfectly nice life being looked after by his housekeeper Grammy Mole, visiting with his friend Piggles and enjoying his many hobbies.  Lately, however, he’s grown restless, looking for something special to give his life meaning.  When Piggles suggests that something might be the lovely Miss Mousie, Froggie decides to take a chance and woo her.  Unfortunately, before they can live happily ever after, she is kidnapped by the Lily-White Duck…or maybe not.  Well, Froggie believes she has been and so in the tradition of his favorite romantic novels, he’s off on a quest to save her, even if he has absolutely no idea where she is.

Unfortunately, his quest turns into a comedy of errors for everyone unlucky enough to cross his path – Sally Badger, a tavern maid who becomes his unwilling companion, a skunk and possum who see their precious dandelion crop destroyed before their eyes, and three chipmunks who lose their money to a flimflamming fox by following his advice. Can all be made right again?  Will Froggie ever make it back home to wed Miss Mousie?  And who will save everyone from the Lily-White Duck?

In the spirit of “The Wind In The Willows,” this full-length play requires four simple sets, 6 females, 6 males and 12 others (doubling is possible).  Check out this sample from YouthPLAYS and then order your copy today!

That clever cat!

“Puss ‘N Boots – A Tale Of A Tail”

Once upon a time, a miller’s son was cheated out of his inheritance and ended up with a mill cat as his only possession…

So begins the beloved Perrault fairy tale.  Unfortunately, it’s rather short on details – just who is this brave, quick-witted cat, where does she come from and what does she want?  This version of the story answers these questions while bringing her, her master and all the other characters vividly to life – the Miller and his older, scheming son, the King and his brave daughter, the evil, shape-shifting Ogre and the rest.  It might be easy for clever Puss to fool the King into believing a poor peasant is really the Marquis de Carabas but is she resourceful enough to outwit a man-eating monster?  Will the Princess be able to marry her true love or is she destined for a much more horrible husband?  And after ensuring that everyone lives happily ever after, can Puss find an equally joyful ending for herself?

“Puss ‘N Boots” expands and enhances the original short story into a wonderful adventure the whole family will enjoy.  It’s full-length, requires 3 playing “areas,” 5 women, 6 men and 8 either (doubling possible) and is now available from Playscripts.

History never really goes away...

Ghost Rider – The Final Journey
 Of The Underground Railroad”

A great way to teach and learn about the Underground Railroad, “Ghost Rider” is a full-length piece with plenty of comedy that requires just one simple set and offers lots of opportunities for performers with its many roles (10 females, 10 males, 1 either).  Why not order a copy from Concord Theatricals today?

Has King Arthur come back?

“The Man Who Would Be King…Arthur”

The legend of King Arthur ends with a promise – Arthur is not dead but sleeping on the Isle of Avalon, ready to return to save England in her hour of need.  And that is where we begin…September, 1940.  Out in the English countryside near Glastonbury, the legendary location of Avalon, Harry, Beth and Robin play at crusading for King Arthur as Knights of the Round Table.  When Charlie, an American girl, arrives in the neighborhood, she’s a bit of excitement in an otherwise boring summer.  But things get even more thrilling when an enemy plane crashes nearby and the kids discover a mysterious stranger in the wreckage.  Is he a German spy, a lunatic escaped from the local hospital, or might he just be who he claims to be – King Arthur, back to save Britain?  With varying degrees of skepticism and belief, the kids accompany Arthur on his quest – first to London to retrieve Excalibur from the basement of the British Museum and then on to Dover to save King George VI from being kidnapped by Nazis!  Can England be saved?  Is Arthur who he thinks he is?  And who is that stranger walking on the cliffs of Dover?  An exciting adventure for the whole family, the Once and Future King is back in “The Man Who Would Be King…Arthur.”  (This play was formerly titled “The Return Of The King.”)

This full-length play requires 2 girls, 2 boys, a young woman, an older woman and 3-5 men on a single set with alterations.  Read the whole thrilling story, is available at Concord Theatricals.

The Rain King, the lord of tears, the master of sorrows...

“After The Rain King”

Glory may be just a little kid but she’s in big trouble – when she opens a locked book she finds in an old trunk, a mysterious stranger jumps out!  “I am the Rain King, the Lord of Tears, the Master of Sorrows, the Commander of the Darkness in your soul!”  And Glory is the one responsible for releasing him from his prison and setting him free in the world again!  Before she can stop him, he kidnaps Pete and disappears back into the book.  To rescue Pete, Glory and her friends must follow and soon find themselves jumping from story to story – battling pirates in “Treasure Island,” helping young Arthur pull the sword from the stone in “Le Morte D’Arthur,” facing down bank robbers in “Praire Rustlers” and even becoming bugs!  Can they save Pete, not to mention the world, from this dangerous monster or will he cast his evil spell over us all?  A funny, chilling and imaginative play with an exciting climax.

All you need is a single set with variations,  4 boys, 4 girls, 1 man and 5-15 others, perfect for your small group by doubling parts or your large class with a role for everyone.  Take a look now at Concord Theatricals.
